Bishan Home Day Activity Centre promotes lifelong learning opportunities for adults with intellectual disability. Our object is to encourage, enable and enrich the lives of our clients through programs where clients are taught through lessons and constant practice to achieve a quality of life that maximize their functioning capabilities.
As part of the Training and Development programme, all clients will undergo training in Activities of Daily Living Skills (ADL) and Community Living Skills (CLS).
Our Daily Living Skills programme is activity based and focused in the following areas such as personal grooming, feeding, mobility and toileting.
In our Community Living Skills programme we cover:
- Interpersonal relations – Meaningful social interactions with others; appropriate social behaviors in public setting.
- Community mobility – Using traffic lights to cross (with staff supervision) the road; able to go to nearby amenities with some assistance.
- Community Activities – Participate in social and recreation activities with volunteers. Can be organized both within and outside Bishan Home.
- Home Living – Engagement in simple household chores or food preparation
Support for family
We provide 2-way transport for DAC clients in specific areas (Serangoon, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan and Toa Payoh) at a subsidize rate. Government subsidy is available for eligible clients.
Testimonials from our DAC parents
“I am constantly updated on the progress of my son’s learning. Now he is able to carry out activities of daily living such as dressing more independently. I would reinforce such activities at home with him.”
“The staff of DAC are committed, caring and patient. They are always ready to go extra miles. Before my son was admitted to Bishan Home’s DAC, he was quiet and had difficulty walking. Now he has become more bubbly, alert and there is improvement in his mobility.”
